This major will give professionals the tools, knowledge and skills to deal with the new cyber threats surfacing everyday. Cyber security can not just be delegated to the IT department but must be on the strategic agenda of the organization, right up to boardroom level. Having insights on the cyber threats and the broader landscape as well as the internal security and risk capabilities is key. Participants of this major learn how to develop and implement information risk and security management strategies and policies.

Overview of the Major in IT Risk & Cyber Security Management

360 degree approach on IT Risk & Cyber Security

In order to meet present-day information security requirements, (tech) leaders must be well aware of the organization's mission and vision. They must have insight into the company's cyber threats as well as the internal security capabilities. A full 360 degree approach must be taken, learning and understanding the legal, technical, organizational and cultural aspects is required to implement a successful strategy.

Learning objectives

  1. Apply governance mechanisms- You learn to apply governance mechanisms needed to develop and to implement security programs while taking into account business strategies such as buy and build strategies, (de) centralized IT, cloud strategies, global presence, outsourcing strategies, etc.
  2. Developing Security, Risk, and Governance Strategies - You will be able to develop information security and risk management processes, integrate them in related corporate processes and associated technology & behaviour, all with the objective to guarantee a good measurable corporate governance that can be monitored on its performance. Also development of a strategic technical implementation roadmap that is aligned with business goals and addresses contemporary architecture and technology.
  3. Continuous improvement - You will learn to develop, explain and manage successfully the necessary improvements and/or adjustments on people behavior, process, policies and technology taking into account all legal, business, society and human related aspects.

Challenge yourself with the Master Project

The objective of the master project is for you to illustrate your ability to formulate, analyze and report - in an academically grounded way, on an organizational challenge in the area of IT or digital technologies. The master project is not only a final graded evaluation but also an opportunity to apply a rigorous academic approach and insights onto a real-life business case study. It's a life changing opportunity - where you will combine learning, experimentation, collaboration and grounded thinking.

Digital Transformation: Strategy & Leadership

12 ECTS
This module is made up of two sub-modules:

  1. Leading Digital Transformation
  2. Mastering Digital Disruption

  • Translating the integrated business and IT strategy into an operating model
  • Strategy maps for managing digital transformation, including concepts of sustainability, ethics and integrity

Corporate Governance, Risk & Compliance

6 ECTS

The module Corporate Governance, Risk & Compliance - realized as a collaborative effort of Antwerp Management School and Maastricht University - provides a broad view on the adjoining areas of governance, risk & control and compliance & assurance. The module covers the latest insights both from a theoretical and a practical point of view.

  • Concepts and structures of corporate governance
  • Corporate responsibility and ethical leadership
  • The COSO/ERM model
  • Internal control in the business processes
  • Basics of the assurance process (including planning & scoping, audit testing, reporting and documenting impact)

Cyber Security Management

The module Cyber Security Management offers up-to-date knowledge for information security professionals in order to excel in the governance and management of their IT security responsibilities. The program addresses the importance and need for information
security and outlines the required practices to realize a robust information security management process in your organization.

Cyber Security Architecture & Technologies

9 ECTS

The module Cyber Security Architecture & Technologies addresses the core elements of implementing and maintaining cyber security and risk management practices into organizations.
It addresses tactical and operational aspects of the profession. Participants will be equipped with the competencies to effectively identify, prepare for, and respond to emerging cyber threats.

Electives

3 ECTS

Everyone who participates in our executive master in Digital Transformation and Leadership can choose several electives to personalize your learning experience - all electives address specific trends or challenges that are relevant today. This grants you the opportunity to expand your network, as well as to get in touch with experts and specialized faculty members. The topics vary each year but for example topics such as Change Management, or Innovating with Business Design Thinking will be on the menu.

Master Project

15 ECTS

The objective of the Master Project is for the candidate to illustrate their ability to formulate, analyze and report- in an academically grounded way - on an organizational challenge int the area of management of IT. All candidates will be supervised by a promotor, your faculty coach.

Two types of Master Project are possible:

  1. A 'research' project: covering a research question, methodological approach, empirical findings and conclusions
  2. A 'consultancy' project: covering a problem statement (a business issue in an organization - this can be the current employer of the student), approach, application of concepts/theories/models and conclusions.
