A core of full-time academic faculty, employed by AMS or shared with the University of Antwerp, form the backbone of the AMS faculty community. Smart cities, smart mobility: everything seems to be smart nowadays. Our buildings too are stacked with sensors that continuously generate data. Smart building is the way to go, although no one knows exactly how smart smart buildings are. Michaël Peeters helps us to uncover the real value of smart buildings in his doctoral thesis. In order to do so, 75 students of AP University College Antwerp were dropped today in a vacant student dorm and had to find their way out of varying simulated fire situations. The million-dollar question: can smart buildings save lives?

Scientists are already able to hack human beings thanks to the rapid evolutions in biotechnology, AI, neurosciences etc. At the same time, stress is the number one cause of long-term sickness absence. It’s high time we put scientific and technological progress at the service of well-being and health at work. Melexis and Antwerp Management School have already found each other in a groundbreaking Chair that uses technology and insights from neuroscience to strengthen organizations and people.
For the past 60 years Antwerp Management School has been at the forefront of innovation, transformation and entrepreneurship, always in the best interest of people and society. AMS celebrates its 60th anniversary with a four-day festival about the future. Contradictory as this may sound, it is completely in line with the baseline of AMS: “Opening minds to impact the world”. During the opening night on Wednesday 28 August, the audience was already given various mind openers to take home. With top guests such as Dries Van Noten, Winston Ma and Sindi Mabaso Koyana, you would expect nothing less.

Together with PwC, Antwerp Management School mapped out to what extent established companies and start-ups in Belgium work together and what plans they have for the future in that respect. This resulted in the very first Belgian Corporate Venturing Barometer 2019.
