LEARNING OUTCOMES MASTER OF ENTERPRISE IT ARCHITECTURE (MEITA)

D1. Knowledge and understanding

The Master of Enterprise IT Architecture offers its participants a thorough knowledge and understanding of enterprise IT architecture in all its diverse aspects. This Master Program is organised around a set of specialised modules, focusing on deepening knowledge on enterprise IT architecture, stretching knowledge towards business strategy, leadership, change and risk management, and integrating knowledge across the whole Master Program (through assignments, project work and master project). Transfer of knowledge and understanding is achieved in a variety of interactive ways: lectures with class discussion, use of case studies and business games, preparation by reading recent articles and business literature, simulations and exercises, etc.

D2. Applying knowledge and understanding

This executive Master Program bridges the gap between research based knowledge and applicability in the field. Each module contains assignments and project work, aiming to translate the concepts and theories in the own organisational environment. Also, guided by one of the faculty, each participant has to deliver a master project, in which he/she demonstrates an integrated understanding of and ability to apply the concepts of enterprise IT architecture. Wherever possible, a team approach is used enabling multi-disciplinary experiences. And last, but not least, whatever topic is under consideration in the classroom at the moment, the practical business experience of the participants should contribute to the discussion. In class discussions, guest lectures by and discussions with business people and alumni of the program all add to giving students a clear insight on how to apply all their recently acquired knowledge and understanding to the world of IT enterprise IT architecture.

D3. Making judgments

From the outset, participants are challenged to bring in their own opinion and participate fully in class discussions. The diverse educational backgrounds present in the group of participants, ensures a diversity of points of view and ways to tackle enterprise IT architecture discussions. Participants are made to understand to use this confrontation of opinions to achieve a more comprehensive and balanced judgment. Additionally, feedback is given on how to use academic and analytical knowledge to carefully evaluate different situations and their implications in a real-life business context. Throughout the courses, the project assignment and the master project, participants are asked to formulate concrete personal and/or team conclusions and to translate these into specific enterprise IT architecture recommendations. Opinion leaders will often be invited to challenge these recommendations and enter into discussion with the participants.

D4. Communication

During the selection of the participants, attention is already paid to the presentation and communication skills of the candidates. During the evaluation of the projects within the modules and in the master project, communication is an important aspect. The participant, or team of participants, will not only be judged on the quality of its written report and verbal presentation, but the whole communication process between the participants, the company and the schools’ project advisor will be part of the final evaluation.

D5. Learning skills

The program, like all the Master degrees at the Antwerp Management School, has taken the development of the skills of its participants to the center of its learning goals. Program-related learning skills are introduced to ensure an efficient and high quality learning experience for the participants. Participants are taught how to work with case-studies and have to write and present (individual and group) reports and presentations in an academically correct way. During the process of development and reporting, participants can receive any type of advice related to improving their daily practical learning skills. Moreover, and based on feedback from peers, faculty and guest speakers, the development of social skills and attitudes like teamwork, leadership, independence, motivation, intercultural awareness, etc. now form an substantial and integrated part of the programs. At the end of the program, an individual evaluation will monitor and demonstrate the progress that has been achieved in the development of the participants’ skills.

2. Learning Objectives

The Master of Enterprise IT Architecture aims to provide the participants with a thorough theoretical understanding of enterprise IT architecture concepts and the ability to apply these in practice.

The following learning objectives (L) and qualifications can be determined:

L1. An advanced understanding of and insight into the fundamentals and concepts of information technology (IT) leadership, governance and alignment in the context of an organization;

L2. An advanced understanding of and insight into the fundamentals and the concepts of enterprise architecture design and implementation;

L3. An advanced understanding of and insight into the fundamentals and the concepts of IT architecture design and implementation;

L4. An advanced understanding of and insight into the business risks and security management aspects connected to information and communication technology;

L5. General competencies at the advanced level to learn to reflect in a scholarly, critical, and independent manner about complex problems connected to enterprise and IT architecture;

L6. The mastery of general competencies at the advanced level to conduct one’s own scholarly research on enterprise and IT architecture, using in the process the scholarly paradigms that are discussed throughout the program;

L7. The mastery of general competencies to originally and creatively apply the scholarly knowledge in the subject field and to translate them into (solutions in) a practical environment, having in mind the continuous broadening of knowledge and insights, and this both individually and in a multidisciplinary team context;

L8. The ability to communicate in an comprehensible manner one’s own research and practical experience to peers in the field and to laymen, thus making a contribution to the knowledge in the discipline of enterprise and IT architecture;

L9. Preparedness to participate in continuous training with an eye on the ongoing following and interpreting of the theoretical program.
